Why uMhlanga is called uMhlanga
‘uMhlanga’ is Zulu and means ‘place of the reeds’. The name comes from the profusion of reeds along the Ohlange River, which flows just north of Umhlanga. The area was once part of an ancient coastal dune forest system, which still provides sanctuary for small wildlife today.
